The Process
This book started out as a simple expression of gratitude, a letter to the person who was instrumental in helping me turn my life around, but the narrative grew far beyond that scope and expanded so much. I realized I was actually writing a memoir. Documenting my grief journey, and reliving specific moments from my husband’s death, proved to be a brutal challenge; an agonizing ordeal, like a descent into a dark and emotionally devastating place. However, I knew I had to face it head-on. Confronting my past was a necessary step toward facilitating acceptance and inner peace, and I found all of it to be a critical part of my recovery. The final goal was to restore my life. Ultimately, my greatest reward was a fundamental shift in perspective. I was reminded that the life I shared with my beloved, though fractured by illness and eventually loss, held an enduring value and beauty worth cherishing for the rest of my life. In the end, I decided to turn my personal tragedy into a source of strength, and that decision led to a profound commitment to also help others find their own path through sorrow.
